Step Up and Succeed 2025/2026

Foundational Skill Building for the Skilled Trades

We are pleased to be continuing our work in a second year of this exciting skilled trades related initiative.

We continue to support small and medium-sized employers in the skilled trades and the apprentices they support.

In our first year we developed an "employer resource hub" and met with employers across the province to share the news.

The hub is a one-stop-shop of existing FREE and low cost supports for employers. It also holds over 20 brand news resources we developed with the needs of small, non-unionized employers in mind. These new tools help support employers with their attraction, retention and workforce upskilling needs.

The information in our hub also helps employers connect their apprentices with the FREE support that Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) programs have to offer. Apprentices can get support from LBS programs for on-the-job and in-school apprenticeship training and skill advancement. LBS programs help boost apprentices’ success in the skilled trades.

As our work continues, we're going to

  • update our hub to increase accessibility and user functionality
  • continue to meet with employers across the province to share the resource hub
  • host brand new 1-on-1 coaching and group training sessions to support employers
  • develop new resources for the employer resource hub based on feedback shared from employers across the province
