South Central participates in or leads several activities
in support
of adult literacy programs
across the province.
Here are some of the core activities we will be working on in 2025/2026.
Integrating AI Tools into Get SET Teaching Practice
This year, Literacy Link South Central continues research into the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in Get SET (Skills, Education and Training) teaching.
Beyond making connections between accessibility, ethics, and overall Get SET Program considerations, we'll research and report on how to apply AI tools in specific instructional contexts in community-based, school board, and college LBS programs.
At least five e-bulletins on this topic will be issued throughout 2025-2026. Find each issue here (as they become available).

LiUNA and Get SET: Comparative Approaches to Teaching Adults
Literacy Link South Central is thrilled to have developed and delivered a virtual workshop in partnership with Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 1059. This interactive workshop brought construction craftworker instructors and Get SET (Skills, Education and Training) practitioners together to compare approaches to teaching adults interested in or already working in the skilled trades.

Mapping Get SET and Apprenticeship
Get SET (Skills, Education and Training) and Apprenticeship are both part of Employment Ontario and funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD).
To ensure both systems have the capacity to refer to one another and support our shared clients, we will map out apprenticeship partners within LLSC's 6 county area, along with various pathways to apprenticeship. The resulting navigation tool will be available for Literacy Service Providers, helping to promote integration between Get SET (Skills, Education and Training) and apprenticeship.
The mapping tool will be posted here when it is complete.
Service System Managers (SSMs): An Integrated Approach
The successful integration of Get SET (Skills, Education and Training) into Ontario's new Service System Manager (SSM) system is vital for employment success. To support that integration we will:
- map out the Common Assessment Tool (CAT) to identify responses that should result in an LBS referral
- explore potential training to assist Employment Services staff in understanding the Get SET system and how to make referrals
- identify data sources to indicate how Get SET contributes to positive employment outcomes
- propose processes and/or tools to support effective referrals to Get SET programs

Skilled Trades Information Conduit
LLSC is thrilled to represent Get SET (Skills, Education and Training) as a member of the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum/Forum canadien sur l'apprentissage (CAF/FCA). Through our membership, we collect information and perspectives from the skilled trades, learn best practices, and gain access to resources. To ensure knowledge transfer across the Get SET system, we will share the resulting intelligence with programs in our region and with the Learning Network of Ontario (LNO) so it can be delivered to Get SET programs across the province. This will increase the Get SET system's ability to support learners either already working in the skilled trades, or on the apprenticeship goal path.
Professional Development for Literacy Practitioners
We are excited to continue creating and offering relevant Professional Development (PD) to our programs and peers. Throughout the year we will share information and resources, develop and deliver presentations, and bring in speakers for literacy program staff on a wide range of topics including the new Culminating Tasks.
