Service Planning & Coordination

We collaborate with literacy programs and community partners to build an effective and diverse adult literacy system.

About Service Planning

What is Service Planning?

Service planning is not a new concept. For many years, organizations have put thought into the services they provide to their clients and community and the impact they want to have – all with the goal of improving services and making a difference in the lives of people who use those services.

The service planning process acts as a framework for making services responsive to, and organized around, the needs of communities. The resulting service plan allows a community or organization to play an active role in moving in the direction that it wants. It also allows a community or organization to react appropriately to challenges and opportunities.

Why do we do Service Planning?

In Ontario, regional literacy networks have a mandated role in the area of service planning and coordination. As the provincial focus moves toward providing a seamless service experience to clients, this planning role is broadening. It now includes a more coordinated planning approach with other sectors and systems – planning in a more integrated way. Literacy Link South Central is responsible for Service Planning and Coordination in a 6-county area - Middlesex, Oxford, Elgin, Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk.

How do we do Service Planning?

We regularly organize Service Planning meetings where we invite Literacy and Basic Skills programs and community partners to attend. At meetings we explore trends, review data and share programming information. Based on the identified needs or the forecast needs of each community, we develop a plan to respond to those needs. For the staff of Literacy Link South Central, Service Planning is a continuous process. You will often see our staff engaged in community conversations outside of Service Planning meetings in an effort to further understand local literacy needs and trends.
