Celebrating the importance of education

In December of 2020 Literacy Link South Central was thrilled to host a discussion with Obstetrician and author Dr. Asa Ahimbisibwe. Dr. Ahimbisibwe's novel Hopeful outlines his life growing up in Uganda, Africa, and the struggles his family faced as they dedicated themselves to providing an education for him, against all odds. The access he was given to education changed not only his life, but the lives of his immediate and extended family. Learn more about his journey, and his fight for equitable education for both boys and girls in Uganda and around the world, by viewing a recording of this inspiring session. Click here

According to the Canadian government, writing is how we share information using written words, symbols, and images. For example, we use this skill to fill out forms and applications, and write emails, reports and social media posts. Learn more about writing and the other Skills for Success here , and think about the writing you do on an average day, from grocery lists to reminders to homework. If you'd like to build your reading, writing, creativity, problem solving, and other Skills for Success, Ontario's adult literacy programs offer free, individualized training that can help.
