Core Activities
Each year, in addition to Literacy Service Planning, Literacy Link
South Central participates in or leads several activities
in support
of adult literacy programs
across the province.
Here are some of the core activities we are working on in 2026/2027.
Building Skills That Stick: Literacy as the Key to Apprentice Success
Literacy Link South Central is excited to further the connection between Get SET (Skills Eduation and Training) and Apprenticeship through the development of training and resources, which will be delivered virtually to Skilled Trades Ontario (STO's) Apprenticeship Advisors across Ontario.
Check back to learn more about these events and resources they completed.
L'intelligence artificielle au service des programmes francophones
Literacy Link South Central (LLSC) is thrilled to support the development of a new French-language demonstration video based on the the original English version "(Get SET) AI Chatbot for Literacy Education."
We will work with COFA, sharing resources and tools for translation, and to ensure that the rebranded chatbot name translates appropriately.
As an end result, the Francophone resources will be delivered to parcours Réussite en education et au travail programs through both LLSC (locally) and COFA (provincially).
Check back in September for a link to the French-language demonstration video!
From Skills to Success: The Literacy and Apprenticeship Connection
LLSC is happy to continue our membership in the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum/Forum canadien sur l'apprentissage (CAF/FCA).
We are also looking forward to actively participating in the Skilled Trades Alliance (STA) in the Grande Erie region (Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk), and co-chairing the Apprenticeship Network in the Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin region.
Through these activities we aim to collect and share information with local Get SET programs about the Skilled Trades landscape, and new resources and/or relevant, supportive organizations that can help build the connection between Literacy and Apprenticeship.
Maximizing Get SET Programming for Employment Readiness
LLSC will meet with other regional networks to list potential markets for the Get SET program, develop outreach strategies and materials to be shared in those markets, while identifying any gaps.
These efforts will culminate in a provincial webinar that showcases the results and things we have learned along the way.
Check back at the end of the year for a link to the webinar video!
Enhancing the Provincial Information-Sharing Landscape
While Ontario has 16 regional Get SET support organizations (known as the Learning Networks of Ontario/LNO), collectively these organizations are collaborating to share good practices and trends and to maximize their resources.
More specifically, in 2026-2027, LLSC will continue to chair the Learning Networks of Ontario which meets 4 times a year.
There are also 5 Communities of Practice focusing on the Workforce/Workplace, Apprenticeship, Underrepresented Groups, Enhanced Service Coordination, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
LLSC leads the Workforce/Workplace Community of Practice and ensures LLSC staff attend the other Communities of Practice.
Responding to the Challenge of Education Automation
We are excited to continue our research and to evaluate accelerating advances in AI technology and describe their impact in Get SET classrooms, using our AI Bytes platform.
(First newsletter published in 2024).
In this new phase, AI Bytes will shift focus from recommendations on AI tool use to discussing the impact of digital tools on instructor and learner cognition.
AI Bytes will take a multimedia approach, continuing to support the Get SET community with our newsletter while introducing four quarterly podcasts.
Introducing the AI Bytes podcast!
The podcasts will be poised to provide listeners with topical content about new products reshaping the professional demands placed upon Get SET professionals. We will evaluate and test these products, analyzing their influence on critical thinking and educational planning to help instructors feel fully prepared to navigate learning environments facing the pressures of educational automation.
Check back for links to the newsletters and podcasts as they are developed.
AI-Powered Scaffolding Chatbot
LLSC is thrilled develop and pilot test a GPT-based scaffolding bot prototype!
The chatbot will support Construction Craft Worker pre-apprentices and apprentices by generating adaptive worksheets that enhance math language recognition and reinforce construction-focused math concepts.
We anticipate that the piloting of the chatbot, as well as research into its performance via structured interviews with participants from the pilot stage, will lay the groundwork for a full release of the chatbot to the Get SET field in its post-prototype phase in 2027-2028.
